If you own a small business, it's a great idea for you to promote your business with its own website. Given the ever expanding size of the Internet, having an online presence for your business is even more valuable. One of the most important things to do, however, is to ensure that this website is visible and effectively promotes your business. Here are five ideas for making sure that your small business website doesn't get left behind your competitors.

1.Get Writing on a Blog If you have the time, or your business model is particularly appropriate, start writing a business blog. A blog is a great way of expressing your views and ideas on things, and can encourage people to visit your website. You can also use your blog to connect important information on your website with other blogs; such as to ones from other businesses or those that are relevant to your own business. Blogs are a great way of keeping up to date with the latest news, keeping a website current, and attracting interest to your site.

2.Make the Most of Social Media When it comes to modern internet marketing, social media leads the way. Most small businesses should have Facebook and Twitter accounts as a basic. There are some other useful social networking sites out there as well. Linking Facebook and Twitter to your business webpage will enable online visitors to quickly like or follow your page. The more interest that's generated through social media sites, the more people will visit your website. It's also useful to add a Facebook or Twitter feed to your website's home page. People will be interested in seeing what's appearing in this feed and will stay on your website for longer.

3.Make Your Webpage Mobile Friendly Smartphones such as androids and iPhones are dominant in the market today and increasing numbers of people are using smartphones to browse the Internet while on the move. This will soon be the usual way that people access the Internet. Many standard webpages are difficult to view properly using this medium, whereas mobile webpages can be conveniently and easily viewed on smartphones. If your site is mobile friendly and can be easily accessed by people who are on the go, it will have a technological advantage over many other websites.

4.Ensure Your Webpage is Interactive Having interactive elements on your webpage, particularly photos and videos, can increase visitors to your website, and keep those visitors looking for longer. More than ever before, people browse for information on the Internet that is delivered via visual media. Continually updating photos of the products or services you offer can increase the interactivity of your site. Linking your site to an online web gallery, which has the capacity to host thousands of photos, is a good idea, and can help you to display slide shows on your webpage. It will also count as a link to your site. This can also be achieved by linking to videos from YouTube or Vimeo. Make sure that you also regularly update your webpage logos and graphics, to keep it looking up-to-date.

5.Use Search Engine Optimization Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is the process of making a webpage more visible on a search engine hit page. This can be done through keyword usage in Web content and creating relevant links to a webpage from other sites. This will allow your webpage to place higher on a search engine hit page, and drive more traffic to a Web page. Many small businesses are using this technique, and are more visible in today's very competitive Internet market.

These five tactics can help you to develop your business webpage, make it more visible to the online marketplace and increase the number of online visitors to your website. Social media strategies can help encourage a younger demographic to visit your webpage and improve your online presence. Your small business will be able to better compete in the online world.
