When you're trying to buy a new car you are usually looking for a car dealership simultaneously. Most of the time people buy from dealerships, although it is sometimes common for car-buyers to look through a classified ads section and try to find a private sale. Although this is appealing, most of the time it is safer and wiser to go through a dealer.

Of course there is a common difficulty involved, which is the fact that not all car dealers are created equally. We've all heard people gripe about their local car dealership, expounding on the many ways that they were maltreated or ripped off. But is that the whole story? Of course not. Great dealerships do exist, but it's up to you to find them. The following are a few ways to identify a great dealer.

It may sound odd, but one of the ways that you know a dealer is going to do a good job is when you find a great customer service staff. The customer service desk is one that you may have to interface with more than you want to, and if they're friendly, helpful, prompt and available you can usually bet that the rest of the shop is going to be similarly well-run. So try to get an understanding for how the customer service people are.

Another thing to look at and pay attention to is the overall level of cleanliness and presentation that you encounter when you visit the showroom. A dealership that has renovated and updated interiors and exteriors and seems to have a very professionally laid-out showroom is probably going to carry that same level of professionalism into all other aspects of their business.

The last thing to look at in a dealer is a financing plan. You need to find the dealership that is offering you the best options available. This can be hard, as deals come and go and change every day. In the end the key is to just keep an open mind, keep open options until something comes along that seems like it is a good fit for you. That's when you go with your instincts and take a leap of faith.
